Dr. Ramesh Chawla

Dr. Ramesh Chawla, Professor of Chemical Engineering, has served as faculty advisor of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChe) Student Chapter for approximately 10 years and as Director of Graduate Studies for 5 years. Under his leadership as AIChe advisor, the chapter won national awards for outstanding chapter and outstanding newsletter, and during his tenure as Director of Graduate Studies, enrollment increased by 300%. Dr. Chawla has received many teaching awards, including the AT&T Outstanding Teacher Award, the Exxon Excellence in Teaching Award, and the Ralph R. Teetor Award given by the Society of Automotive Engineers for promise and excellence in teaching.

Dr. A. Wade BoykinDr. Chawla is held in high regard by his peers and students, for his development and reorganization of several courses in environmental engineering. He has developed six Self Study Modules in key chemical engineering areas for the American Institute of Chemical Engineers; these modules have been well received and are widely used nationally. Over the last 30 years, Dr. Chawla has submitted more than 70 research proposals, singly or collaboratively, and has received more than 2 million dollars in external funding. Dr. Chawla has published over 50 refereed papers in scientific and technical journals, including eight chapters on teaching and research in chemical and environmental engineering areas. He is the founding editor of Literature Watch, a publication of the Hazardous Materials Control Resources Institute.
